ART Week 2023 — Seeing the Work Outside the Studio
In May 2023, a selection of my works was presented at ART Week 2023.
At that stage, I was still developing the visual language that would gradually become central to my practice.
Seeing the works installed together in an exhibition space was different from seeing them in the studio.
Distance changed them.
On the wall, I could suddenly see relationships that had been difficult to notice while making them: repeated gestures, recurring forms, the balance between movement and empty space.
I could also see what I wanted to leave behind.
This became one of the valuable parts of exhibiting for me.
An exhibition does not only show the work to other people. Sometimes it allows the artist to see the work differently too.
Standing outside the process creates a certain distance — enough to recognise what is beginning to feel like your own and what is not.
Sometimes showing the work is also a way of understanding where to go next.
