Research as Part of the Practice
Before the World Told Me Who to Be
Before the World Told Me Who to Be began with a question: who were we before we learned who we were supposed to become?

We enter the world without definitions of success, beauty, belonging or the kind of person we should be. These ideas come later. Slowly, through family, culture, relationships and experience, they become part of the way we see ourselves.

The series follows this transformation through three stages: Infantia, Iuventus and Maturitas.

Infantia reflects the openness of the self before external expectations take hold.

Iuventus explores the period when identity begins to form in constant dialogue with the outside world — through comparison, expectation, acceptance and resistance.

Maturitas is not a return to who we once were. We cannot undo what has shaped us. Instead, it is the moment when we begin to recognise what belongs to us and what does not.

The Latin titles connect these stages to something fundamental and universal: growing, changing, becoming.

At its core, the series is not about returning to an untouched version of ourselves.

It is about learning to hear our own voice among all the others.
