Woman: Balancing Our World — MORA Museum, New York
In December 2023, my work was presented in Woman: Balancing Our World at the MORA Museum of International Art in New York.
The exhibition brought together different perspectives on womanhood — strength and vulnerability, independence and responsibility, personal identity and the many roles women inhabit throughout their lives.
What interested me most was the idea of balance itself.
We often speak about balance as though it were a stable point we eventually learn to reach.
But perhaps it is something much less certain.
We move constantly between different versions of ourselves: the person we are alone, the person we become in relationships, the roles we accept, and the expectations placed upon us by others.
Some of these roles become part of who we are.
Others can gradually become so dominant that it becomes difficult to distinguish the person beneath them.
Looking back, I can see how close this question was to something I would continue exploring in my practice years later:
How do we remain ourselves while becoming everything life asks us to be?
