REMAINS
What remains when the roles we inhabit begin to fall away?
We learn to recognise ourselves through the names, roles and expectations that gradually become part of our identity. Over time, the distinction between what we are and what we have learned to be becomes less certain.

REMAINS begins with this uncertainty.

The series considers identity not as something fixed or waiting to be uncovered, but as something continuously formed, altered and negotiated. What we call the self is never entirely separate from the world around us. Yet neither can it be fully explained by the roles we occupy.

Rather than attempting to reveal an essential or original self, these works remain within that tension — between what is imposed and what is chosen, what becomes visible and what resists definition.

Material is not used to illustrate the concept of identity, but to question how identity takes shape. Each work is built through successive interventions — shaping, covering, exposing and preserving. These actions echo the ways in which experience, expectation and personal choice become inseparable within our sense of self. What emerges is neither an untouched original nor a finished reconstruction, but a form that carries the history of its own becoming.

Identity is not an answer to be found, but a condition of continual becoming.
In REMAINS, identity is approached not as an answer to be found, but as a condition of continual becoming.
Each page is counted, but no folio or page number is expressed or printed, on either display pages or blank pages.
Materiality has become increasingly central to my practice.
I am interested in what happens when materials with different physical behaviors are brought into the same space — when fluidity encounters structure, movement meets resistance, and something temporary is given permanence.
Rather than using materials to illustrate a predetermined idea, I work through their relationships. Their resistance, unpredictability and transformation become part of the process through which the work develops.
This approach allows meaning to emerge through the work itself rather than being imposed upon it.
For me, material is not a translation of an idea into form. It is a way of thinking through the work.
